At our last fundraiser, the Bachelor Auction, we pledged 10% of all proceeds to LifeWorks.  Thanks to the generous individuals who bought [...]]]> In a continued effort to reach to out to the community the LA Rebellion has recently teamed up with LifeWorks. LifeWorks is a nonprofit organization that offers mentoring and consulting to LGBT youth in safe and positive environment.

At our last fundraiser, the Bachelor Auction, we pledged 10% of all proceeds to LifeWorks.  Thanks to the generous individuals who bought dates, merchandise, and raffle tickets at auction, we were able to raise a substantial amount for both the team and LifeWorks.  We were honored to have Michael F, Director of LifeWorks, join us at our year end BBQ,  and present him a check from the funds we raised for LifeWorks. Here is our president Ben presenting the check to Michael at the BBQ.

The LA Rebellion is very glad we could help out a great cause and we look forward to working with LifeWorks in the future.

The Rebellion posted another strong finish in the Bingham Cup VI June 1-3, 2012, in Manchester, United Kingdom finishing tied for seventh place of 37 international teams.

The Rebellion emerged 2-1 from a strong pool including San Francisco A, Sydney B, and Atlanta.  After a tough opening loss to the Fog, who finished second overall, the Rebellion won back-to-back matches against the Convicts B side and the Bucks.  Zulu tries were earned by Mr. Cupcake, PT Cruiser, and the Doctor.

Despite a tough fought 0-0 second half against the Gotham Knights (NYC) in the Cup quarterfinal, the Rebellion were unable to overcome a first half deficit and dropped to the Plate Semifinal.  With only twelve healthy players remaining, the Rebellion put forth a signature hard-hitting effort in a muddy loss to the host Manchester Village Spartans in our final match on Sunday.

The Rebellion were supported all weekend by Hollie, Heather and Mike - whether it was getting us water, telling HJ what side we’re on, or cheering us up on the buses they were there for us

Rebellion MVP goes to our forwards captain Ananias Chairez.  Always a vocal and physical leader on the field, Ana displayed exceptional courage and mental toughness playing the last three matches with a serious scratch on his right arm.  He was one of only three Rebels to play all 200 minutes in the tourney (along with Boooooo and Pinko) and looked like he was hiding from a Predator by the end of the mudmatch.

Team Updates - AB’s surgery was a success and he’s hobbling around Europe now.  After second and third opinions from renowned surgeons, Ho will be able to keep his leg despite the Charlie Horse.  Padilla and Caufield will likely punch you if you accidentally bear hug their ribs.  Trancer 2 will never again use British medical tape on his foot.  HJ knows what day it is.  Pinko remembers that Trancer are two different people.  Ghost Protocol has not been spotted since dinner.

Many thanks to all of our supporters – this Bingham Cup would not have been possible without everyone’s ongoing support.  That’s not lip service.  Until the auction, we were perilously close to not being able to bring over a full side.  Thank you everyone!

Congratulations to the LA Rebellion, who placed 2nd out of 9 teams with a 3-1 record this past weekend at Seattle’s Magnitude 15.11 tournament — our highest finish in a Magnitude tournament!

In the first match of the tournament, the Rebellion defeated the Seattle Quake B-side 22-0.  During the second match, the Phoenix Storm (featuring two Rebellion alums) earned the first try of the match but the Rebellion then reeled off 36 unanswered points to secure the win in a spirited, hard-hitting match.

Day 2 went a bit rougher. Playing against the Seattle Quake’s A-side during the first match of the day, by halftime we were down 17-0. However, during the 2nd half (in typical Rebellion style), the boys clamped down on defense, preventing any additional tries but still unable to close the gap in our lone loss of the weekend. Cheers to the 4-0 Quake on a well deserved championship!

With that unpleasantness behind us, the Rebellion seized the opportunity for redemption in the matches that followed. For the first time in club history, the Rebellion defeated the San Francisco Fog in an IGRAB tournament match! The team gutted out a 24-10 victory over the Fog in a game that included a 7 minute try-line stand and approximately 1 bazillion scrums.

Other tournament events included the Kangaroo Court, hosted by rugby legend Ben Cohen. One of the Rebellion backs (who shall remain nameless) was called in front of the court and appropriately disciplined for crimes against rugby. Later, the team represented en masse at the Cuff (a host bar and sponsor for the tournament). The motto for the night: First we drink (pitchers), then we put our pants on.

Congratulations to coach Will Tabor, team captain Will ‘Thrilla’ Padilla, Nate Leung (who we named as our MVP for the tournament), and the rest of the boys. It was an outstanding weekend on and off the pitch!
