Assistant Coach

The Los Angeles Rebellion Rugby Football Club is seeking qualified and motivated applicants for a part-time Assistant Coach, Men’s Rugby. This is a great opportunity to work with an ambitious Division IV amateur rugby club and play a key role in the club’s continued development and legacy. As Los Angeles’ only fully-inclusive men’s rugby team, we welcome all players regardless of age, ethnicity, religion, sexual identity, physical status or past athletic/rugby experience.

Our season is from October 1, 2018 - June 1, 2019, training twice weekly in the evenings. We compete locally as a Division IV team in the Southern California Rugby Football Union), and nationally/internationally as part of the International Gay Rugby Association, through which we will participate in the IGR West Championship in Portland on May 30 - June 1, 2019.


Summary

Assist the Head Coach with the club’s athletic activities including: practice preparation, recruiting, fitness training and supervision of rookies and returning players, logistical support and coaching at matches, collaborate with Team Captains and coaching assistants to set and achieve goals, and foster a safe and welcoming environment for all members.

Schedule

Practice is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 - 10 pm. Selected individual must be able to attend at least one evening practice per week.

Matches are held on Saturdays between January 19 - April 27, 2019. Selected individual must be able to attend all matches, which typically occur between 11 am - 3 pm.


Compensation

Hourly pay is based on qualifications and experience, ranging from $20 - 25/hour. Approximately 2-4 hours per week during the regular training season, with an additional four (4) hours per match scheduled between January 19 - April 27.

Requirements

  • (Preferred) 1+ years experience coaching high school, collegiate or amateur rugby.

  • Advanced knowledge of the rules, techniques and strategies of the game of rugby.

  • Be able to physically perform skills to accomplish all aspects of rugby training sessions.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of amateur players at a variety of skill levels.

  • Demonstrate effective management and interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate with athletes, coaches, Board members, volunteers, visiting teams, supporters and the general public.

  • Adhere to club policies, and hold similar values pertaining to our mission and philosophy on inclusivity and equality.

  • Capable of attending practices and home matches in the metro Los Angeles area and San Fernando Valley, as well as away matches in Orange County, San Diego and Temecula.

  • Must be capable and available to lead practices or matches in Head Coach’s absence.

  • (Preferred) Possess current First Aid/CPR Certification.
